Growing things

By | March 15, 2011

I’ve been growing things.  For the past few weeks I’ve been annoying M by filling the kitchen windowsill up with trays of seeds.  Slowly but surely they’ve been poking through the compost.  First the tomatoes, then the aubergines, sweet pepper, strawberries, chilli and finally, much to M’s delight, a solitary Peter Penis chilli.

I grew a few tomato and chilli plants last year but only had one of those plastic greenhouses to put them in, which was fine until August bank holiday when we had strong winds and it blew away leaving me to harvest what fruit I had and give up.

This year I have not one, but two proper greenhouses.  I am rather excited by this and can’t wait to get my plants in there and get sorted.

I am still very much a beginner at all this so any tips are welcome!  When is the best time to move the plants to my greenhouse?  Just how big do aubergine plants grow?  How big do the containers for the strawberries need to be?

See?  I really haven’t got a clue!

Oo, exciting! I grew a few things in pots last year and we’re going for it again this year. So far it’s just salad leaves on the windowsill.
No room in our garden for a greenhouse alas – good luck with yours!
