Rod & Ben’s Soup: A review

By | April 19, 2011

I was lucky enough to be sent some soup from Rod & Ben’s to try out recently.  I’d not heard of them before so went for a browse online and found out that all the food they produce is organic and they make all their soups in small batches in order to preserve the colour, flavour & texture of the soups.

I can vouch for this as I had to wait an extra week in order to get a freshly prepared sample of their new Tomato & Courgette soup (available from 1st May) and I have to say it was well worth the wait.  It was full of flavour and actually had texture, unlike most of the tinned soups.

My Grandpa makes his own tomato soup and the Rod & Ben’s soup really reminded me of that which can only be a good thing.  The soups come in 600g tubs which are enough for 2 servings.  I ate all the tomato and courgette soup to myself over 2 lunchtimes but I did share the other soups we had with M.  The other soups we were sent were Free Range Chicken & Vegetable flavour and Cream of Cauliflower flavour (which is April’s flavour of the month) and these were both really nice too, full of flavour and just very tasty.

A number of the soups are gluten and wheat free and I also spotted a dairy free one so there’s something for everyone.

They’re available online direct from Rod & Ben’s shop with RRP’s of £3.20 – £3.45 and are also available from independent retailers (including Able and Cole, Riverford, Planet Organic stores, Union Market, Selfridges and As Nature Intended), delicatessens and farm shops all around the Country and south west Morrison’s stores.
