Sticky Chicken Wings

By | November 25, 2011

I made this for our bonfire night barbecue and it was really good.  I was a bit unsure once I’d mixed the marinade up but once the chicken was cooked it was so good!  As usual we bought far too much food so the left over chicken was cooked in the oven on Monday and served with chips.

I used chicken wings but any kind of chicken would work.

  • Chicken (wings and drumsticks work best) – 8 to 10
  • 3 tbsp runny honey
  • 4cm piece of ginger, peeled and grated
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 2 tsp chinese five spice
  • 3 tsp soy sauce
  • 5 tbsp orange marmalade
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil

  1. Simply mix all the ingredients together to make the marinade.  Place the chicken in a non-metallic bowl and pour the marinade over.  Leave for at least 2 hours, turning occasionally.
  2. If you are barbecuing, cook for around 20 minutes, turning frequently.  Ensure the chicken is cooked through.
  3. To oven cook, heat the oven to 200c and cook for 45 minutes, turning occasionally and basting with any additional marinade.

I realise there’s no photograph but in my haste to eat them I forgot to find the camera out.  But honestly, they’re chicken wings in marinade, you can imagine what they look like right?!

These will definitely be on our barbecue list next summer.  They were good done in the oven the day after but I’m not really a fan of eating with my fingers when we’re sat at the dinner table so I’m unlikely to do the wings as part of a meal but I may try the marinade on some chicken breast fillets instead.
