This month we chose The Iron Giant as part of the Tots100 film club. I can vaguely remember taking part in a play based on the Ted Hughes book ‘The Iron Man’ when I was in junior school so I wondered if I’d remember any parts of it once I’d watched the film.
The first time I put it on for C she didn’t seem bothered by it. In fact, she didn’t even get to the end before deciding she was bored and wandered off to do something else.
The following day, however, she asked for it to be put on again, then again the next day, and in the 3 or so weeks we’ve had the film it’s been on at least a dozen times.
If you haven’t seen the film it’s about a young boy who makes friends with a giant robot from outer space and must try to keep him a secret from a government agent who wants to destroy him. It features the voices of Vin Diesel, Jennifer Aniston and Harry Connick Jr.
The story is great, and there’s a happy ending without all the songs and fairytale-ness you often get in childrens films. It’s got sad parts, funny parts and is guaranteed to make you smile.
Without a doubt this is our favourite Tots100 film so far!
