A Fun Filled Weekend

By | August 20, 2012

We’ve had a lot of fun outdoors this weekend.  We’re lucky that, as M starts work so early, he’s home for lunchtime on a Friday so our weekend can start early.

Our Friday wasn’t the greatest weather wise, but we didn’t let that stop us so we put C’s bike in the car and headed to Clumber Park which isn’t far from us.

There’s a new discovery centre there which we spent a bit of time in, then we let C have a play on the woodland adventure area before having a bike ride.

Before heading home we had ice creams.  We don’t let the rain put us off!

Clumber Park

I really like Clumber Park but the price of parking puts me off a little.  £5.80 is a lot of money just to park your car for an hour, especially as you’re more than likely going to spend some money while you’re there too.

Saturday was sunny so we headed off to Calver in the Peak District to have a wander around a camping exhibition there.  We didn’t end up buying anything but it was nice to have a look at some of the tents as we’re thinking of upgrading ours for next season.

As we were only a 10 minute drive from Chatsworth House we decided to head there to pass an hour or two.  In hindsight we shouldn’t have taken the dogs with us as we were limited to where we could go but we still had a nice hour wandering round exploring and letting the dogs play in the stream.

Chatsworth House

Parking here was a more reasonable £3 although if you want to go in the house or gardens you have to pay more.

We’ll definitely be coming back in a few weeks as we want to take C to the farmyard and adventure playground and we’ve promised her we’ll bring a picnic too.

M was working on Sunday but C went to the seaside with her grandparents and, I’m told, had lots of fun on the beach.  Sadly no photos though.

It’s been a really fun family weekend.  I’m sad to be back at work this morning!

I hate the way that parking fees can spoil a place, there’s just no need for it at all! Regardless, fantastic shots and it looks like you had a lovely time. I finish work at midday on a Friday and it’s a fantastic feeling starting your weekend before everyone else.

Thank you. Parking fees are a pain aren’t they? I don’t work Fridays since having C but used to hate Friday afternoons!

Shame about the car parking charges. Sounds like you had a great time, though. Pity about the dogs.

Wow that was an action packed weekend but some great looking places to take the kids! Car parking at those rates is a cheek, especially when you have to pay on top. Lovely to be able to just get out though what ever the weather and make the most of places in the holidays. Sounds like a weekend the children will remember. Thank you for joining me on Country Kids.

Wow, you fit a lot into the weekend. While at the camping expo, what’s on your to-buy list for next year?

Your family might be struggling to find fun, yet cost-efficient, activities. If you had to cancel your annual family vacation because of budget constraints, you can still plan an exciting family weekend that features fun activities without breaking the bank. Use your creativity to make the most out of your area.
