Camping, carnivals and gold medals

We’re back from a lovely weekend camping in Hope in the Peak District.  Despite the forecast not looking too good before we set off we actually had fab weather!  We had a couple of quick showers on Saturday but thankfully one was early and the other was late afternoon while C was napping so they didn’t bother us at all.

We arrived at the campsite on Friday lunch time and, after setting up the tent, we wandered down the road to the local pub to let C have a play on the park.  It turned out that the pub is owned by family of Jessica Ennis so there was a bit of Olympics fever there this weekend!

Our friends arrived with their niece early on Friday evening so C was happy as she had a friend to play with all weekend.  There’s only a few months between the 2 of them so they get on really well.

Saturday was spent at a carnival in Bradwell, the next village to where we were staying.  It was really nice with a parade, fancy dress competition, magic shows for the kids and lots of stalls to wander around.  We happily sat on the grass while the kids played football and watched the entertainers.

We returned to our tents late afternoon and started the barbecue (under the gazebo due to the rain) while the girls napped, then had a walk down to the pub again to see Jessica Ennis win the heptathlon in style.  Didn’t she do well?

Our weekend was finished off with a full English breakfast on Sunday morning before packing everything up and reluctantly heading home.

We love camping, especially when we have decent weather.  It’s a shame we don’t get to do it more often.  Our next trip is planned for early September and we’re looking at sites in the Lake District.  Recommendations welcome!
